Upbeat East Bengal lock horns with ATK Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata Derby
The rich history and tradition of the Kolkata Derby makes it Asia’s biggest football extravaganza . East Bengal FC take on ATK Mohun Bagan FC in a high-voltage clash on 29th October 2022 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The match is slated to begin from 7:30 PM (IST).
East Bengal FC would be high on confidence after their stellar show against NorthEast United FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati last week. The Red and Gold Brigade won the match 3-1, thanks to an inspiring all-round performance. The entire crowd went berserk as several fans from Kolkata thronged the stadium in Guwahati in large numbers.
Goals from Cleiton Silva (11’), Charalambos Kyriacou (53’) and Jordan O’Doherty (84’) powered East Bengal FC to their first Hero ISL win this season. The win is a huge confidence booster for the team after they didn’t achieve the expected results in their first two games.
After losing their first match of the season 1-2 against Chennaiyin FC at home, ATK Mohun Bagan won their next game against Kerala Blasters FC 5-1 in Kochi.
Addressing the media at the pre-match Press Conference on Friday, EBFC Head Coach Stephen Constantine said, “”It’s a big game. It’s not pressure, it’s pleasure. Pressure is when the baby or your wife is sick. We get paid to play. It’s an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be involved in the derby. It doesn’t get better than this.”
EBFC captain Cleiton Silva, too, spoke to the media when asked about his motivation for EBFC’s first Hero ISL derby in Kolkata. “When you play in front of 60,000 or 70,000 people, you get natural motivation to perform. It’s better than playing in front of empty stadia as we did in the last two seasons. Their support means so much more,” the Brazilian forward answered, sitting beside the Coach.
