Odisha FC vs East Bengal FC | Hero Super Cup 2023

Odisha FC will take on East Bengal FC in their first match of the Hero Super Cup 2023 on April 9th at 8:30 pm IST at Payyanad Stadium, Manjeri, Kerala. Both teams will be looking to make their mark in the prestigious tournament and go the distance, after mixed seasons in the HERO ISL.

The Red and Gold brigade who earlier named a 24 man squad for the tournament, come into the competition with a mixed record having edged Mohammedan Sporting 4-3 in a friendly but then losing 0-1 to Chennaiyin FC. However, these games should serve as ideal preparation heading into the tournament which traditionally is known for producing some thrilling contests. In 2018, East Bengal FC went on a dream cup run falling short in the finals against Bengaluru FC and with a AFC Cup Playoff Spot up for grabs, the team will be looking to do one better in this edition.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match against Odisha FC, Head Coach Stephen Constantine spoke about how we played well against the Juggernauts in the HERO ISL fixtures this season, but were punished for individual mistakes which ended up costing us both home and away. Referring to the AFC slot as a motivation for the participating teams, the gaffer earmarked the provision as positive for the Super Cup, which he feels should be held concurrently with the HERO ISL and I LEAGUE. The gaffer also congratulated Aizawl FC for making it to the group stages at the conference.
