East Bengal FC look to secure season’s third win against Jamshedpur FC
East Bengal lost to Odisha FC 2-4 in their previous outing. Despite being 2-0 up at the half-time break, the Red & Gold Brigade ended up on the losing side. They currently occupy the eighth spot on the points table with two wins and five losses.
Jamshedpur FC, meanwhile, suffered their third loss on the trot against Chennaiyin FC in their last game. They currently stand ninth on the table with 4 points (1 win, 1 draw and 4 defeats).
As far as the head-to-head record is concerned, the two teams are on level terms. In their four games against the Men of Steel so far, EBFC have registered a win, a loss and two draws.
Notwithstanding the defeat, a major positive from the Odisha match for East Bengal is the attacking prowess of their Indian players. While Semboi Haokip and Naorem Mahesh Singh netted a goal each, VP Suhair put up a fine show with two brilliant assists in the first half half.
The East Bengal players and their Head Coach Stephen Constantine are eager to get back to winning ways in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Speaking to the media on the eve of the match, Constantine acknowledged the unconditional support of the Red & Gold faithful.
“We expect our fans to be with us everywhere. They have turned up for our away games in good numbers so far. Jamshedpur is not too far from Kolkata. They have been fantastic. We understand the sacrifices they make. They travel and support us wherever we play. We appreciate and need their support,” the former Indian National Team Head Coach said.
When asked about his impressive form in the current Hero ISL season, Mahesh replied, “It’s all about giving my best for the team and learning from my past mistakes.”
