East Bengal FC look to make it two out of two against Bengaluru FC in Hero ISL 2022-23
One of the major highlights of East Bengal FC’s sojourn in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 has been the 1-0 victory over Bengaluru FC on 11th November 2022. EBFC’s Brazilian forward Cleiton Silva netted a goal against his former Club in that game.
The Red & Gold Brigade currently occupy the 9th spot in the table with 9 points (3 wins and 6 defeats). Simon Grayson’s Bengaluru FC, meanwhile, are placed eighth with a point more.
Although East Bengal FC are coming on the back of a loss against table-toppers Mumbai City FC, a two-week gap has helped Head Coach Stephen Constantine and Co. go back to the drawing board and return afresh.
EBFC have also triggered 22-year-old defender Lalchungnunga’s 1-year loan deal from Sreenidi Deccan FC into the permanent option that will keep him at the Club till the end of the 2025-26 season. The youngster has made 47 clearances so far this season and needs to play a crucial role if EBFC are to bag their first home win.
The Red & Gold Brigade enjoy an impressive track record against the Blues. In 15 encounters across all competitions so far, East Bengal have won on 8 occasions, while the Blues have won on 6 occasions. Only one game has ended in a stalemate.
Speaking to the media on the eve of the game, East Bengal FC Head Coach Stephen Constantine said,“Knowing that we are capable of beating a team like Bengaluru FC who are a good side…Yeah, it does give us confidence. We will play at home, so we want the crowd behind us. They will encourage us to play well.”
Midfielder Jordan O’Doherty said, “There are no easy games in this league. At the same time, we believe there’s no incredibly hard game either. The fact that we have put up good performances against some of the best sides will give us confidence in the second phase of the league. Maybe we deserved more from the games. We know we are capable of doing better. Let’s hope for more positive results.”
