Cleiton Silva’s goal sinks Bengaluru FC as East Bengal FC gain 3 crucial points

It was a night full of special moments at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The rivalry between Bengaluru FC and East Bengal FC is a very enticing rivalry and it dates back to the Hero I-League days.
East Bengal FC quickly re-grouped after their narrow defeat against Chennaiyin FC and turned the tables around against Simon Grayson’s Bengaluru FC. The Red & Gold Brigade cruised to a 1-0 win over the Blues to register their first clean sheet of the current season.
The game had its ebbs and flows. In the very first minute of the game, Bengaluru FC’s Bruno Ramires towards EBFC goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh, but it missed the target. The action intensified right from there. Kamaljit had a good outing as he registered his first clean-sheet in Hero ISL 2022-23. The custodian was outstanding with his acrobatic saves and athleticism, which helped the Red & Gold Brigade register their second Hero ISL 2022-23 victory.
Around the 10th minute of the game, Cypriot Charis Kyriacou unleashed a goal-bound shot from far off, but it went straight into the gloves of Bengaluru FC’s Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
The first half of the game witnessed chances from both sides but East Bengal FC dominated possession. The deadlock was broken in the second half via a counter-attack from East Bengal FC.
Bengaluru FC’s corner in the 69th minute backfired and Mahesh Singh Naorem was the man of the moment in the wings. He was one-on-one with Gurpreet after intercepting a defender of Bengaluru FC and clipped the ball to Cleiton Silva, who gave his finishing touch. It was the Brazilian’s third goal of the ongoing Hero ISL and his fifth overall in East Bengal colours.
In the dying minutes of the game, Spanish defender Ivan Gonzalez who has graduated used all his experience to deny an onrushing Roy Krishna from scoring.
EBFC’s head-to-head record against Bengaluru FC in the Hero ISL now becomes even. The record stands at 2-2 for each team. If we take a look at the overall record, East Bengal have won eight matches, whereas the Blues have won only six.
Addressing the media after the win, EBFC Head Coach Stephen Constantine said, “We dedicate this win to our deceased fan Joy Sankar Saha.” The Red & Gold Brigade next face Odisha FC at home on November 18, Friday.
